Hi. I’m Kevin Roozen. I’m an Associate Professor at the University of Central Florida, where I teach First-Year Composition, undergraduate and graduate courses in Writing Studies, and I direct the First-Year Composition program. Since I started teaching in 1995, I’ve had opportunities to work with high school students, basic writers, undergraduates taking upper-division courses, and graduate students pursuing advanced degrees, all of which have given me plenty of opportunities to think about writing and writing development. By way of further introduction, in the prose and video that follow I want to share with you a couple of pivotal moments in my thinking about what it means to become a literate person in the world.
