Voiceover: Hi everybody. This is Hui Li. This is my digital literacy project. In my opinion, I think literacy lies not only in the ability to read and write, but rather in an individual's capacity to put those skills to work in the course of his or her own life. My digital literacy narrative is my experience of how I learned to reuse different software on computers to communicate with others better. When I was in elementary school, I didn't have any idea of using computers, and I was not interested in it either. But we had computer classes twice a week. I was always very nervous in class because I couldn't follow what the teacher taught us in class. Later on, when I was in fourth grade, I realized that my life can't not be without computers. I was crazy about music at that age, so I needed to download music online. What's more, I should communicate with my friends by modern technology or social media, like Facebook, SnapChat, and WhatsApp, but in China we have similar applications by different names like WeChat and Cuckoo. Or I would be teased as an antiquated person. Later on, I realize now I have many, many necessities on computers. Like sometimes I need to use Microsoft Office to do my homework, and I need to email others. And sometimes I need to download music online. And there's many popular social media I have to use, lie Facebook, Twitter, and the most famous video website, YouTube. So knowing I have to live with computers, I started to learn how to use them. Usually, I practiced many times what teacher taught us in class after school every day. Fortunately, I realized computers were really cool and interesting machines because I can almost find everything I want on computers. After that, I began to explore different functions on computers and learn many softwares and applications by myself. Often, I tried every key and function in every software to know how to use it. After two months, I can use computers proficiently. During exploring, I thought the most difficult part for me is improving the speed of typing, because it really needs a long term practice. However, learning how to use websites is the easiest to learn, because I didn't need to read books before I go to websites because it's very easy. I can always go to where I want to find something interesting. From my experience of learning to use computers, I learned a lesson that we should be interested in the area we want to learn first, and then, keep practicing, you will be successful in the end. And it's like, practice makes perfect! Today, I'm aware of the importance of computers to people. And the experience of learning to use computers really helped me a lot. We need to use computers every day to study and do homework, to communicate with others, to know what happens to the world. You can find every important event to happen to us, and happen to the whole world, online. I believe it will help me very much in both my life and work in the future. Thank you!
