Warren Francis: Predictive Passing
Here, with the (then) OSU student, Warren Francis, we observe him trying to take some intellectual control over this precarious situation. He speaks so smartly of developing programs and technologies that would help others understand what and how he hears (and doesn’t) and also that might help audiologists better “predict” hearing loss patterns based on computational models. What Warren Francis doesn’t know is that both of these things have already been developed in technological quests to predict, map, and measure human hearing (and hearing loss). Yet what his will and imagination shows us is how important it should be to engage the actual “subjects” of such quests and tests in the development of them—making “users” also “developers,” and placing them then in a considerably more empowering and constructive between space.
