Why is this writing adventure called Not Your Mother’s Argument? Because in part, it is getting harder to separate the various selves that are creating it. We have seen research that looks at women who bring the so-called “second shift” to work, and the inherent dangers of the academy for women, and the worrisome nature of needing to explain the choices we make.




 

“Mothering in the academy—whether it’s through the nurturer in the writing program or the maternal teaching model—can carry with it a danger.” (Theresa Enos, 1997, p. 65)
